Meet The Interns - Ryan Combs
Hey everyone! My name is Ryan Combs, and I’m a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill. I’m majoring in Economics and Advertising & Public relations. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas but don’t be fooled, I’m no cowboy –– I only walk to class in boots when it’s under 90 degrees, and I don’t take my horse unless I’m running extra late. Friday Night Lights aren’t quite as special when you’re a backup on the C-team, so in high school I decided to stay as far from football as I could and took up running instead. I currently run cross country and track for UNC, and I never get bored of pounding pavement. That said, I still watch and enjoy just about every other sport out there and will defend my Houston Rockets to death (if critics can even manage to find any flaws).
Since childhood, I’ve been a big believer in passion over persuasion when it comes to advertising. Whether I wanted to sell my mom on buying me a new Lego set, or inspire a fast freshman to stay dedicated to my high school cross country team, I’ve always believed that the best advertisement comes from an unmistakable personal enthusiasm. The best brands do more than just sell to people; they inspire them. As Phil Knight, founder of Nike, once said, “I realized, it wasn’t selling. I believed in running. I believed that if people got out and ran a few miles every day, the world would be a better place, and I believed these shoes were better to run in. People, sensing my belief, wanted some of that belief for themselves.” I’m grateful for the opportunity that Intrepid has given me and I can’t to gain some incredible experience this summer!
