Intern Reflections: A Virtual Summer
For the last few months, I have had the incredible opportunity to intern with Intrepid Marketing Group. This experience was my second marketing internship, but my first experience working with a client base as large and diverse as Intrepid’s. Additionally, this was my first experience working in a “virtual office” setting, which taught me a lot about virtual communication, intrinsic motivation, and time management. Outside of my previous marketing internship, and taking a few marketing-specific courses at North Carolina State University, I had no real-world experience working with these types of clients and was extremely excited to learn all I could about this field.
At the beginning of the summer, I was unsure of what my day-to-day would look like interning with Intrepid, but I knew I was excited for every opportunity I was given. I was immediately drawn to Intrepid by their versatility in the public relations and sports marketing fields and was lucky to receive exposure to this world. I knew from the start I wanted to be challenged by performing tasks that were outside of my comfort zone and that really made me think, and that is exactly what I did these past few months.
When it came to my day-to-day at Intrepid, I always wanted to make sure I was readily available and completing all of my tasks in a timely manner. I also wanted those I worked with to trust and know that I was always providing my best work, and genuinely wanted to learn from them. I’m so grateful for the relationships I have built over these past few months and am lucky to have so many new resources in this field in the people I have met. I truly believe the best way to learn is from others, and the people I engaged with this summer were the best teachers I could’ve asked for.
Moving forward, I will definitely stay in contact with those who helped and taught me so much over these past few months, and I hope to take everything I have learned and incorporate it into many aspects of my life. My experience interning with Intrepid was exactly what I hoped it would be, and I am so grateful for that.
My advice for future interns is to always ask questions and be curious about things outside of your comfort zone. The people I worked with this summer always encouraged me to ask more questions, and they were always there to explain things a new way and give me their best answers.
I, definitely, recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in any aspect of this field. The exposure to so many different services and clients is exactly what every student needs to better understand what they want out of their degree, and ultimately understand more about themselves.
I’m very grateful for all I was able to experience and learn over these past few months while interning at Intrepid Marketing Group. It’s very bittersweet to see this summer come to a close, but I’m excited for what’s to come next, and how I can continue to learn more about this ever-evolving field.
